There are times when I love a photo but my eyes don't know where to look first and that's not a good thing. Good composition should draw your eye to a focus point in all photos... Yesterday I was having this problem with the photo I had taken above.
When I took the photo I knew I wanted the focus to be on baby but I took it at a distance to give me some room to play. Once I got on the computer I was having a difficult time figuring out how to crop it. My first thought was to crop it as a portrait, which is what I did. Then later while looking at it on my phone, I felt I couldn't tell where the focus should be. Do you look at Mom & Dad or baby?
On my iPhoto I started messing with the composition. That's when I saw it really needed to be cropped as a landscape. It's then that you look first at baby holding Mom's hand (finger) then you see the kiss. This is how I wanted your eye to see it! I still like it as a portrait but it grabs me more as a landscape.
