My cards... Oh they have been such a place of delight for me since I was a silly girl in college. I have always made my own cards, it's a fun crafty project that I sometimes get in over my head with. This year I decided to partner up with a paperteria that I adore, Paperjoy. It's a small store in Phoenix that is busting with beautiful paper and inspiration.
Lydia, the store owner and I have worked together in the past and this year as you may know we partnered up for the Holiday Promo I ran. She's got a great style and I love her work. Her cards are precious and not comparable (in price or style) to Target, Costco or Snapfish... To me a card or letter like this is such a treat and even a high point to the mundane bills collected at the end of the driveway by us all and can stand apart in the sea of sameness... Does everyone think about cards like this?...
So this year I went to Lydia because without anytime to spare my cards had lost their spunk. During our design visit we chatted about all sorts of stuff. One thing she said to me stood out. Her cards can sometimes (depending on the client) can get to be quite complex and layered. She allows for the customer to choose do some of the embellishments themselves to cut down on costs. She said to me, "I just want people to have pretty things". A simple but beautiful thing, I know that's part of why I love her work. She loves her job and her creations and has a business based on passion. After our meeting I was full speed ahead and had my work cut out for me.
For both cost and time reasons (I didn't meet with her until Dec) I decided to do some of the embellishments myself. Not all my cards are the same I think there was about 10 different paper styles. I also like to sign the cards and address them myself. It's just a fun way to stop and think about all the friends and family as I write out each card. I may not have time to write a personal note but they are all written by me... So here I am on Dec. 18th with most (30 or so more to go) of my 130 cards stamp, addressed and mailed. I think most of them will be received before Christmas (sorry Hanukah).
I hope the recipients enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the process and checking the mail will continue to be exciting for at least another week for me.
