It's been a few weeks since we started our smoothie routine! I've have several people ask me more questions on where I get our smoothie ingredients. This post is just a follow up to my last smoothie recipe post...
I found that Costco has an organic berry blend. We used four bags of it until Mark started having an allergic reaction. Costco's blend has pomegranate seeds and a lot of them. Our doctor recommended not using that blend (only because of Mark's allergy). I'm glad we switched too because I didn't like all the pomegranate seeds in the mix. Since then Mark has not had an allergic reaction to the smoothies.
1. Almond butter from Costco. I put in about a teaspoon.
2. My Magic Bullet I've had for years and you can buy them on-line and Costco.
3. Almond Milk from Trader Joe's. I use a cup in each smoothie.
4. Chia Seeds this is from Trader Joe's.
5. Green Vibrance, this I drink as a shot after my smoothie. I pour half cup of almond milk and add a serving of green vibrance. Mix in the Magic Bullet so it's not clumpy and down the hatch! I tried it with my smoothie it's not bad. But I prefer to drink it separate.
6. Organic Mixed Berry Blend From Trader Joe's. I love this blend and use about 2/3 of a cup!
7. This is Premiere Lecithin Granules. I got this on Amazon.com. It's great for brain function, helps keep liver and kidney's healthy. Be careful where you buy this. A lot of manufactures genetically modify this product.
8. Organic Power of the greens mix, this is from Trader Joe's too. I grab a handful and put it in our smoothies, it's not at all detectable! Presley knows (now) I put it in her and no complains!
9. Klaire Labs - Ther-Biotic Complete Powder 2.1oz. I use 1/4 teaspoon.
10. Genestra Brands Pediatri-vite. I got this from our doctor's office for Presley. I see that it is also available on-line. One teaspoon in Presley's smoothie daily.
11. I had to tag this since it's in the photo! I add just a small portion to the smoothie. Usually 1/3 of the banana. I now slice and freeze them because I started to have a steady stream of fruit flies.
12. I normally put in a heaping spoonful of ground flax seed (from Sprouts) in mine and Presley's smoothie. I have recently been told that it contains estrogen and may not be good for us in large quantities. I'm still trying to make up my mind on this ingredient.
Smoothies have been a daily routine. I am just now starting to play with a few other blends my girlfriend sent to me. Having a few different recipes I think will come in handy in case this mixture gets redundant.
Since starting with the smoothies I haven't wanted to buy fresh fruit as frequently as I normally do. Being that it's winter it's worked out pretty well (not much fruit available). Another positive point about frozen fruit is I don't have to worry about it going bad. The thought of throwing away food is what has taken most people to foods that have a long shelf life, the trade off is our health.
As always thank you for reading.
